What is Leader standard work?

Leader Standard Work is a set of behaviors, actions, and tools that are incorporated into the routine work of leaders which defines what, when, and how the leader should take action. LSW is a set of recurrent leadership practices and tools that are practiced routinely during the typical workday, based on proven best practices for any task or process, that allows those leaders to start, spread, and sustain improvement. Leader Standard Work is designed to reduce variation, improve performance, develop team members, demonstrate how to make SMART changes, and support people.

Some of the most common tasks performed through LSW include:

  • Participating in team huddles
  • Conducting Gemba walks
  • analyzing and sharing data
  • Supporting improvements of teams
  • coaching/mentoring direct reports
